About Me
Gita Treice (Okonova) painter, illustrator and graphic designer Riga, Latvia. Graduated Riga Secondary School of Applied Arts, Department of Ornamental Design; Art Academy of Latvia, Department of Graphic Design (Master of Arts Degree, 2008); Master Classes of studio Professor Aleksandrs Dembo. Member of the Artists Union of Latvia since 2007. Member of the jury of the book design competition “Zelta abele” in 2007 and 2008. Since 1997 designed more than 100 books. More than twenty books received nominations and awards in book design competitions in the Baltic States. Award for Outstanding achievements in Book Design of the Year (Riga, 2007). The title of Artist of the Year and the award for the most original artistic idea (Riga, 2001). Listed in the White Ravens List of the International Youth Library (Munich, 2001). Nominee INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION BEST BOOK DESIGN FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD (Leipzig, 2013). As a painter held four solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions (around 32). In 2018 she was awarded “Janis Baltvilks prize” for her artwork in books for children and youth. Gita Treice’s book illustrations have been been exhibited in shows in London, Bologna, Tokyo, Paris, Moscow and elsewhere.
